Animal world
The animal world in Argentina is richer and more diverse in the northern part of the country. Here, representatives of the mammals are numerous species of monkeys, jaguars, pumas, ocelots, anteaters, tapirs, wild boars and raccoons. Typical birds for the area are flamingos, almost all types of hummingbirds and parrots. The pampas are inhabited by armadillos, foxes, squirrels, wild cats, rabbits, American ostriches (rheas), hawks, falcons, herons, plovers and partridges. Some of these animals are also found in Patagonia. The cold regions of the Andes are inhabited by llamas, vicunas, alpacas and condors. Fish abound in coastal waters, lakes and rivers.
